Surfaces of ceramic materials are coated with a mixture of powdered metals comprising a major proportion of iron nickel, tungsten or molybdenum and a minor proportion of manganese, and the mixture is sintered. The mixture may contain 10 per cent of manganese and the powder-covered body may be heated for 30 minutes at 1350 DEG C in hydrogen or in vacuo; two bodies so coated may be joined together by placing them in position with a ring of silver, gold or copper between them, and the assembly heated. Alternatively, coating and soldering may be effected simultaneously. A single coated body and a metallic member may be joined similarly. Specification 566,542 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to an alloy consisting of 54 per cent of iron, 28 per cent of nickel and 18 per cent of cobalt. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
