<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic probe having proper transmission efficiency and excellent general-purpose properties. <P>SOLUTION: A color Doppler data generation unit 210 generates color image data on the basis of a reception signal. A screen size and format selection unit 218 selects any one from among a plurality of types of data formats different in data size.
