The present invention, which belongs to a wireless communication field, discloses an automatic transfer power control method and apparatus. The method includes: determining the sector covering the area where a second device locates and the communication channel used by the second device; according to the automatic transfer power control status of the device, which locates in the area covered by the sector and uses the same, neighbor or half neighbor communication channel, controlling the automatic transfer power control between the first device and the second device. The apparatus includes an acquirement module and a power control module. In the present invent, during the performance of the Automatic Transfer Power Control(ATPC), the device requiring the ATPC performs the ATPC according to the distribution of the transfer sector, the usage status of the communication channel aggregate and the ATPC status between the devices in the communication system, thus solving the problem that utilization rate of the ATPC channel is low in the prior art, so as to some emergent ATPC requirements are not processed in time and service is interrupted, and adding the ATPC probability.
