<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system capable of maintaining an idling stop state which helps to restrict the degradation of a fuel cell stack over a long period of time, and a method for controlling the fuel cell system. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system includes: idling stop control means which, when a prescribed condition is met during idling power generation, places a stack into an idling stop state by reducing both the amount of air supplied to the stack and the generated current extracted from the stack below those at idling power generation time within a range greater than 0; and exhaust valve control means which determines during idling power generation and idling stop whether nitrogen or generated water in an anode system needs to be ejected and, when determined to be necessary, opens a purge valve or a drain valve for a prescribed valve opening time. In the exhaust valve control means, valve opening times PO2 and DO2 of the purge and drain valves during idling stop are made to be shorter than valve opening times PO1 and DO1 of the purge and drain valves during idling power generation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
