<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear drive device that prevents a movable portion of a linear motor from free-falling, without providing a mechanical stopper or a counter weight connected to the movable portion with a wire, when a current for driving the linear motor is interrupted. <P>SOLUTION: A linear drive device comprises: a linear motor that has a movable portion which moves linearly in a vertical direction; a moving direction converter that has a first movable element which is connected to the movable portion of the linear motor and moves linearly together with the movable portion, and a second movable element which moves linearly in a direction opposite to a direction in which the first movable element moves; and a weight that is provided in the first movable element, the second movable element, or the movable portion of the linear motor and that balances reaction forces acting on the first movable element and the second movable element, of the moving direction converter when the linear motor is driven. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
