<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkylammonium polysulfide being soluble in organic solvents and having a large number of sulfur atoms, and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an alkylammonium polysulfide represented by the formula (I): 2[NR<SP POS="POST">1</SP>R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>]<SP POS="POST">+</SP>[S<SB POS="POST">n</SB>]<SP POS="POST">2-</SP>, where n represents an integer equal to or greater than 7, R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>to R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>independently represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-C20 organic group, and at least one of R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>to R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>is the organic group.
