The vehicle (10) has an electric machine (14) e.g. motor, for generating driving force for the vehicle, and a high voltage traction battery (12) for supplying power to the machine. Switching circuits are electrically connected with the battery and a high voltage solar panel array (22). The switching circuits have a switch, which is closed if the switch is activated by 1 watt maximum holding power, to allow energy flow from the solar panel array to the battery. The array comprises output terminals, and a capacitor of the switching circuits is electrically connected with the output terminals.
