<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a noise during the silent period by demodulation errors caused by attenuation of an ASK modulation signal, with a simple configuration, in an ASK modulation type digital sound data transmitting and receiving method for ASK-modulating digital sound data comprising many quantization data obtained by sampling and quantizing an analog sound signal to transmit it to a transmission path, and for receiving and ASK-demodulating the ASK modulation signal via the transmission path to restore the digital sound data. <P>SOLUTION: Before ASK modulation, encoding processing for performing logic inversion of a predetermined bit with respect to each quantization data of the digital sound data, based on a value of its highest-order bit is performed.
