The machine (1) has an electric motor (2) e.g. three-phase motor, for moving a molding tool. A clutch (6) e.g. magnetic force clutch or mechanical clutch, directly couples a flywheel mass (11) with a shaft (4) of the motor in an operating mode and decouples the motor from the flywheel mass in another operating mode. A spindle (9) i.e. injection spindle, is connected with the motor to convert rotating movement of the motor into linear movement for moving the molding tool. A control device (10) is connected with the clutch to switch the clutch between the operating modes. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an injection molding machine.
