The method involves detecting an object in the surrounding of the motor vehicle. The electromotive drive device is actuated depending on the detected object such that the motor vehicle is delayed. The brake device is actuated depending on the detected object such that a deceleration process is introduced by the brake device. The time process of the respective delay action on the motor vehicle is determined by the electromotive drive device and the braking device depending on the detected object. An independent claim is included for a device for braking a motor vehicle.
