<p>The element has optical waveguides (1) provided in a homogenous integrated body (2). The optical waveguides include an optical refractive index, which differs from that of a material of the body. Optical radiation is guided from or to an optoelectronic element (3) e.g. photodiode, or an optical connector through the optical waveguides. The optical waveguides are guided within the body so that the waveguides change a direction at an optical boundary surface (2.1). The boundary surface is inclined in an angle of 20 degrees towards a direction of optical axes of the optical waveguides. The coupling element is manufactured by applying a photoreactive polymer e.g. thermally cross-linkable, optically cross-linkable high polymer, copolymer, organic-inorganic hybrid polymer, and polymer containing metathesis reactions, on a surface of a substrate. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an integratable optical coupling element.</p> |
