<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a deterioration of visibility due to reflection light in an oblique direction, in an image display device having a front transparent plate on a visible side surface of an image display panel. <P>SOLUTION: A image display device includes an image display panel, and a front transparent plate on a visible side of the image display panel. The image display panel has a first polarization plate on a visible side surface of an image display cell. In a visible side of the first polarization plate, there are arranged a first 1/4 wavelength plate, at least one retardation layer, a second 1/4 wavelength plate, and a second polarization plate in this order from the first polarization plate. The sum of retardations of the first 1/4 wavelength plate, the second 1/4 wavelength plate, and the retardation layer disposed between the first and second 1/4 wavelength plates, in a thickness direction at a wavelength of 550 nm, is preferably between -140 nm and +140 nm or between 410 nm and 690 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
