COLOR SHIFT REDUCTION OPTICAL FILTER FOR LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE COMPRISING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical filter for a liquid crystal display device to reduce color shift due to an increase in a viewing angle and a liquid crystal display device.

SOLUTION: An optical filter for a liquid crystal display device disposed in front of a liquid crystal display panel comprises a color shift reduction layer and an external light shield layer. The color shift reduction layer comprises a laminated background layer and plural concave or convex lens parts formed spaced apart from each other on the background layer, and scatters light entering the lens parts in different exiting directions, the entering light being part of light emitted from the liquid crystal display panel with its color changed due to birefringence characteristics of the liquid crystal depending on a viewing angle and a gradation level, and the scattered light is mixed with light passing between the lens parts spaced apart from each other. The external light shield layer comprises a light absorption substance. Preferably, the light absorption substance is a black substance which absorbs all wavelength bands of visible light.
