摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time required for a focus adjustment. <P>SOLUTION: An imaging device comprises: an imaging element 212 which has a row of pixels for focus detection; a first focus detection section 118 which calculates phase difference information of a pair of images made by the pair of signals from the row of the pixels for the focus detection and detects a focus adjustment state of an imaging optical system on the basis of the phase difference information; a second focus detection section 116 which calculates contrast information using the signal from an imaging pixel which is different from the row of the pixels for the focus detection while moving the imaging optical system and detects the focus adjustment state of the imaging optical system on the basis of the contrast information; and a control section 101 which respectively controls the second focus detection section 116 and the first focus detection section 118 in a manner that determines the number of pixels to be used for calculating the phase difference information on the basis of a change in the contrast information while the focus adjustment state is detected by the second focus detection section 116 and allows the first focus detection section 118 to detect the focus adjustment state using the signals from the determined number of pixels in the row of the pixels. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
