IMAGE READING DEVICE, AND IMAGE FORMING DEVICE EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which eliminates generation of a black stripe from reading of a first manuscript.

SOLUTION: An image reading device includes: a manuscript transport unit for transporting a manuscript to a contact glass; a white board; an image sensor; an optical unit for irradiating the manuscript with light and directing reflected light to the image sensor; a transferring unit for transferring the optical unit along a sub-scanning direction; a producing unit for producing image data on the basis of output of the image sensor; a stripe detecting unit for detecting an abnormal pixel generating a black stripe; and a memory unit for storing position information of the optical unit in the last reading and presence/absence information indicating presence/absence of the abnormal pixel. Before starting the reading of the manuscript, the transferring unit transfers the optical unit to a pre-transport position. The transferring unit does not transfer the optical unit upon starting the reading of the manuscript when the stripe detecting unit does not detect existence of the abnormal pixel, and transfers the optical unit to a position different from the pre-transport position before starting the reading of the manuscript when the stripe detecting unit detects the existence of the abnormal pixel.
