<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive soil modifying material which includes many nutrients necessary for plants other than nitrogen, has high retainability of fertilizer components and an excellent function in controlling the release of a fertilizer, and can supply the fertilizer components in a slow acting manner to stably grow plants. <P>SOLUTION: The soil modifying material having a function in controlling the release of a fertilizer comprises incinerated ashes of porcine feces and incinerated ashes obtained by incinerating porcine feces at a high temperature of about 850°C are suitably used. When this soil modifying material in its combination with a urea fertilizer is mixed with substrate soil, the function in controlling the release of the fertilizer is exhibited to supply the urea fertilizer to plants in a slow acting manner, and accordingly the plants can be stably grown.
