<p>Provided is a distributed image processing system that can perform, with high precision, the detection of an object situated in an area to be monitored and the detection of the attributes thereof and that can suppress the increase in cost of structuring the system. An area terminal (1) processes an image captured by a video camera (2) and detects if there exists any image-captured object. The area terminal (1), when having detected an object situated in an area to be monitored, sets the visual field of image capture of a digital still camera (3) to the detected object, and inputs a release signal to the digital still camera (3). The area terminal (1) then transmits a still image, which was captured by the digital still camera (3), to a server (4) via a network (5). The server (4) processes the still image, which was transmitted by the area terminal (1), to detect the attributes, such as type, size and so on, of the image-captured object. The server (4) then performs an output in accordance with a result of detection of the object situated in the area to be monitored.</p> |
