<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document illumination device in which a light shielding member can be prevented from coming into contact with a contact glass or a peripheral member while downsizing, by suppressing deflection of the light shielding member due to thermal expansion, and to provide an image reading device and an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The document illumination device comprises: an LED substrate on which a plurality of LEDs are arranged in the main scanning direction; a light guide member which guides the light of the LED to the irradiation region of the document surface; and a cover member 80 which covers a light source substrate and the light guide member from the front side in the emission direction and has an aperture 81 for exposing the exit surface of the light guide member. The cover members 80 are placed above and below the aperture 81, and have a protrusion 83 fixed to a pedestal arranged on the rear side of the light source substrate in the emission direction, and a third fastening part 84.
