<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control a parameter changed by brightness of surroundings by accurately detecting the brightness, which is enabled by compensation for the brightness reduced by a cover. <P>SOLUTION: A mobile phone 10 includes a processor 24 which controls brightness of a backlight 40 depending on brightness of surroundings detected by a luminance sensor 48, in the case of displaying a screen on a display 30; where gain of an amplifier 46 is adjusted depending on the distance between the luminance sensor 48 and a cover detected by a proximity sensor 42.
