The method involves separating two partial exhaust gas pipes (6) and exhaust gas pipes (5) of an inner cylinder from each other, and projecting the pipes into an exhaust gas guide system. Exhaust gas pipes of an outer cylinder and the exhaust gas pipes of the inner cylinder within a cylinder head (1) are guided together to the partial exhaust gas pipes. A cylinder is ignited in a sequence 1 - 2 - 4 - 3. The cylinder is counted and numbered from the outer cylinder in the sequence along a longitudinal axis (2) of the cylinder head. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine.
