A bending unit (12) is moved based on the reference indicator on a display (36) and the actual bending position is determined using a transducer (15). The elastic return of the bent portion of the element is determined with respect to the indicator, to obtain deviation angle. A common angle deviation parameter is obtained using the latest motion of bending unit and nominal values. An independent claim is also included for element bending device.
