A sample collection device into which a sample can be drawn by hand comprises a first receptacle 110 into which a sample can be introduced through a first opening 119 in the form of a slit and a second receptacle 120 into which a hand can be placed from outside the sample collection device, to lie within the first receptacle 110, but isolated from the interior of first receptacle 110. The first receptacle 110 is sealed by means of a first closing arrangement 115 and the second receptacle 120 sealed by means of a second closing arrangement. The sample collection device is arranged so that the second receptacle 120 can in use extend through the first opening 119 to enable a hand contained in the second receptacle 120 to engage the sample and bring it into the first receptacle 110 through the first opening 119. The second receptacle 120 can be shaped to conform to the human hand. The device can be used in collecting police evidence. |
