PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bulk oxide superconducting material having high critical current density characteristics and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: By bonding a plurality of precursors which are substantially half-melted, oxygen release from green compacts in half melting is facilitated, and by carrying out half melting treatment at a low temperature in a short time, aggregation-coarsening of a second phase is suppressed, that is, higher critical current density is achieved. To put it concretely, a bulk superconductor having high critical current density characteristics is manufactured as follows: silver-added plate-like green compacts as raw materials for a superconducting bulk material are arranged in layers while interposing superconducting bulk chips containing a smaller amount of added silver for forming a gap between the green compacts; half melting treatment is carried out to facilitate oxygen release from the green compacts in half melting; the softened green compacts in a half-melted state are bonded by gravity; and the superconducting phase is crystallized.
