PURPOSE: A method of automatic toll collection and an apparatus thereof are provided to minimize toll collection delay or jam and to minimize tollgate installation space. CONSTITUTION: Receiving areas(220,230,240) are installed in a transmitting area of a road side device for matching. Matching accuracy is improved as soon as a vehicle enters a transmitting area. In case a vehicle is recognized in a receiving area, a post-receiving area is formed in a rear side of the receiving area. Toll collection of an unfinished vehicle is performed.
