A data collection and output apparatus (1) adapted for connection of remote serial (e.g. RS232) data collection transducers (51, 52, 53) to a data processor (50), the apparatus comprising a housing containing a lid (3) which may house a solar panel (not shown), a plurality of serial data input ports (7, 8), an antenna (10), at least one Ethernet output port (9) and a battery pack (6). Data input at the ports 7,8 is converted to Ethernet protocol by a serial-to-Ethernet converter (20, fig.2, not shown) and stored for interrogation either by a remote computer attached by Ethernet port (9), or a processor contained in the housing (not shown). A serial-to-USB converter may also be provided, along with at least one USB output port (fig.3, not shown). Also provided is a charging port (not shown) for the battery pack. Applications include use for obtaining measured data in hazardous environments. |
