PURPOSE: A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to efficiently operate a motor and to prevent a noise generated in a deceleration process of the motor. CONSTITUTION: A motor(130) rotates a water current forming unit. A control unit(220) outputs a command torque current value controlling the motor. The control unit rotates the motor. The control unit reverses the phase of the command torque current value. The control unit increases the command torque current value to the fixed inclination. The control unit operates the motor.
