PURPOSE: A positive electrode for a lithium secondary battery is provided to have improved high rate performance, high power density and cycle lifetime performance. CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode for a lithium secondary battery comprises a current collector in which a carbon coating layer(16) is formed on a substrate(12), and a positive electrode active material layer(18) formed on the current collector. The carbon coating layer has a loading level of 0.5-3 g/m^2. The carbon coating layer has the thickness of 1-2 micron. The positive electrode active material layer comprises a positive electrode active material(18a) capable of reversibly intercalating and deintercalating lithium ions. A lithium secondary battery comprises the positive electrode, a negative electrode which comprises a negative electrode active material, and an electrolyte.
