<p>PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device using the same are provided to reduce power consumption at a resistor by reducing current amount flowing into a current sensing resistor. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting diode array includes a plurality of light emitting diodes(LED). A light emitting diode driver(12) generates a voltage for driving the plurality of light emitting diodes. First and second control switching elements(T1,T2) are connected to the output terminal of the light emitting diode array. A sensing resistor is connected between the first control switching element and an earth terminal. A comparator(8) generates a current control signal.
