PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and high-luminance projection picture display.

SOLUTION: The projection picture display comprises: a liquid crystal display element for forming an optical image; a polarizer for polarizing a light that penetrates the liquid crystal display element; and a cooling system for cooling the polarizer at a temperature of 150°C or less. When a value obtained by dividing a light flux amount [lm] of the projection picture display by a size [inch] of the liquid crystal display element is 4500±10% [lm/inch], initial reflectivity of the polarizer is set at 3.7% or less. When the value obtained by dividing the light flux amount [lm] of the projection picture display by the size [inch] of the liquid crystal display element is 3000±10% [lm/inch], the initial reflectivity of the polarizer is set at 7.7% or less. When the value obtained by dividing the light flux amount [lm] of the projection picture display by the size [inch] of the liquid crystal display element is 6000±10% [lm/inch], the initial reflectivity of the polarizer is set at 0.7% or less.
