<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To renew an existing pipe without cutting off water supply or requiring a new site. <P>SOLUTION: In a method of renewing an existing pipe, a new pipe 10 is laid outside at a distance from the existing pipe 12. Split pipes 14 are formed by circumferentially dividing a new pipe having a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the existing pipe into multiple pieces. Each of the split pipes is joined so as to cover the outer circumference of the existing pipe to form a new pipe. Each split pipe can be formed into a half-split pipe that is formed by dividing the new pipe into half. When the split pipes are joined to each other, distance keeping tools 18 of a predetermined length are disposed at several portions between each of the split pipes and the existing pipe to form a uniform gap between the pipes.
