摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve proper and continuous compression self-ignition combustion in a wide load range without increasing combustion noise and soot. <P>SOLUTION: Control is executed to perform self-ignition combustion of the fuel injected collectively before the middle term of the compression stroke in a first operation range A1 including at least a low-rotation range and a low-load range in a warm condition of an engine, whereas control is executed to perform self-ignition combustion of the fuel injected at a plurality of times in a second operation range A2 with a larger load than the first operation range A1. The fuel injection performed in the second operation range A2 includes pre-stage injection P1 where the fuel is injected at the timing when an air-fuel mixture X1 is present unevenly at the outer periphery in the combustion chamber 6 before the compression top dead center, and latter-stage injection P2 where the fuel is injected at the timing when an air-fuel mixture X2 is present unevenly at the central part in the combustion chamber 6 after the pre-stage injection P1 and before termination of combustion of the fuel injected in P1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
