<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool having a coating layer allowing optimization of cutting performances at the rake face and the flank. <P>SOLUTION: In the cutting tool 1, the coating layer 6 is formed by alternately and repeatedly laminating an A-layer 7 made of Ti<SB POS="POST">a</SB>M<SB POS="POST">1-a</SB>(C<SB POS="POST">1-x</SB>N<SB POS="POST">x</SB>) (where, M is at least one type chosen from the group consisting of group 4, 5, 6 metals in the periodic table excluding Ti, Al, Si, and Y; 0.3≤a≤0.9; 0≤x≤1) and a B-layer 8 made of Al<SB POS="POST">b</SB>M'<SB POS="POST">1-b</SB>(C<SB POS="POST">1-y</SB>N<SB POS="POST">y</SB>) (where, M' is at least one type chosen from the group consisting of group 4, 5, 6 metals in the periodic table, Si, and Y; the ratio of Al with regard to the total of Ti and Al is higher than that of the A-layer; 0.4≤b≤0.9; 0≤y≤1) on the surface of a base 2. The thickness ratio (t<SB POS="POST">cA</SB>/t<SB POS="POST">cB</SB>) of the A-layer 7 and the B-layer 8 in the coating layer 6 at the cutting blade 5 is larger than the thickness ratio (t<SB POS="POST">rA</SB>/t<SB POS="POST">rB</SB>) of the A-layer 7 and the B-layer 8 in the coating layer 6 at the rake face 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
