<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system capable of giving notice of another outside line incoming call present during call waiting, a method of controlling the telephone system, and a main device. <P>SOLUTION: A telephone system 1 includes a plurality of telephone sets having notification means, and a main device 10 connected to the plurality of telephone sets, and accommodates a plurality of lines. An automatic answering module 11 outputs a preset speech signal to a line in a termination state according to an answer signal output from a telephone set. An identification information storage part 12 stores identification information on the telephone set having sent the answer signal.
