摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine including a compression ratio varying mechanism, that suppresses deterioration in exhaust property when a target mechanical compression ratio based upon an operation state is changed. <P>SOLUTION: In the internal combustion engine, a gas filled in a combustion chamber in a current combustion cycle includes a residual gas which is not discharged in the last combustion cycle and remains. The internal combustion engine is formed so that learning control such that occurrence of abnormal combustion in combustion of an air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber is detected and a target value of at least one of a target mechanical compression ratio and a target new air suction amount is updated, is performed. In the learning control, the target mechanical compression ratio is updated to be smaller when abnormal combustion occurs, and a contraction amount of the residual gas when the target mechanical compression ratio is made small is estimated to reduce the target new suction air amount based upon the contraction amount of the residual gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
