摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately judge whether or not a scavenging operation has finished in the vicinity of a sensor provided in an exhaust passage. <P>SOLUTION: The electronic control device 50 executes a scavenging operation in the vicinity of the air-fuel ratio sensors 56a, 56b by introducing fresh air to the vicinity of air-fuel ratio sensors 56a, 56b each provided in exhaust passages 21a, 21b during execution of a fuel cut under deceleration of an internal combustion engine 10, and it judges whether or not the scavenging operation has finished in the vicinity of the air-fuel ratio sensors 56a, 56b, respectively. Specifically, it is judged that the scavenging operation has finished in the vicinity of the air-fuel ratio sensors 56a, 56b when the accumulation value of the intake air amount &Sigma;GAr is same as or more than the scavenging operation finish judging value &Sigma;GAt after execution of the fuel cut during deceleration, that is, from stoppage of fuel injection.
