<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of displaying an image by a display system corresponding to an observation state of an observer. <P>SOLUTION: An image display device includes: display means 2A of displaying a stereoscopically viewable image using parallax; first acquisition means (imaging means) 4 of acquiring the observation state of the observer; and control means 5A of controlling the image display by the display means 2A. The display means 2A is configured to implement at least two display systems among a first display system which displays a right-eye image and a left-eye image alternately, a second display system which displays a right-eye image and a left-eye image formed with light beams differing in polarization direction from each other, and a third display system which displays a right-eye image and a left-eye image to be made incident on the right eye and left eye of the observer individually.
