IMAGE ENCODER AND IMAGE DECODER, AND METHODS THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform encoding processing and decoding processing on images at high speeds.

SOLUTION: A binarization part 161 converts syntax elements into binarized data. A context index (ctxIdx) setting part 162 sets context indexes for specifying context variables for the syntax elements so that they are not repeated in parallel processing units. A context variable processing part 163 selects context variables according to the set context indexes. A mathematic encoding processing part 164 performs mathematic encoding of the binarized data using the selected context variables in parallel processing units. The encoding processing can be performed at a high speed. Similarly, decoding processing can be performed at a high speed by performing mathematic decoding in parallel.
