<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Draize alternative method capable of quantitatively evaluating eye-irritating properties without using a tissue or an organ of an animal, etc. <P>SOLUTION: A test substance is added to a test solution containing a liposome, and the irritant properties of the test substance are evaluated on the basis of changes in size of the liposome. More concretely, a reducing speed of a surface area of the liposome is calculated by image analysis and the irritant properties of the test substance are evaluated.
