<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material testing machine capable of gripping a test piece by a gripping tool with strong grilling force, while having an inexpensive structure which does not consume power. <P>SOLUTION: An upper chuck portion 1 and a manual hydraulic pump 8 are connected by a conduit 41. An accumulator 9 is arranged at a position between the upper chuck portion 1 and the manual hydraulic pump 8 in the conduit 41. When a tension test is executed, an operator moves a gripping teeth holder 12 to grip an end part of a test piece by a gripping teeth. Then, the operator operates each manual hydraulic pump 8 to supply hydraulic oil of high pressure to a hydraulic cylinder mechanism.
