PURPOSE: A vibration damping system is provided to easily damp the vibration of a vibration member with giant magnetostrictive materials and to reduce manufacture time with simple installation. CONSTITUTION: A vibration damping system(100) comprises a housing(110), a displacement sensor(120), magnetostrictive units(130), and a control unit(140). The housing surrounds the exterior of a vibration member(10). The displacement sensor is arranged near the vibration member and senses the vibration of the vibration member. The magnetostrictive units are coupled to the housing and are selectively expanded and contracted to make the housing press or release the vibration member. The magnetostrictive units are arranged on the exterior of the housing at a predetermined interval based on the vibration member. The control unit controls electric signal supplied to the magnetostrictive units and is operated by the vibration signals of the vibration member sensed by the displacement sensor.
