<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system capable of detecting a failure in a mobile station radio device in advance. <P>SOLUTION: A radio communication system comprises: a mobile station having a mobile station radio part; a base station which has a base station radio part and is connected to the mobile station by radio signals; and a monitoring device which is connected to the base station by signals and monitors states of the mobile station; where the base station radio part transmits polling signals at predetermined timing to the mobile station radio part, and the mobile station radio part transmits polling response signals to the base station radio part as responses to the polling signals at predetermined timing. The base station measures reception field strength of a radio wave from the mobile station at timing of receiving the polling response signal from the mobile station after transmitting the polling signal to the mobile station, and transmits information on the measured reception field strength to the monitoring device.
