<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for melting glass capable of melting quickly and stably even a considerably large amount of glass raw material, while allowing it to fall through a vertical cylindrical glass melting tower. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates: to an apparatus 10 for melting glass including successively a raw material supply device 18 having a glass raw material supply port 18a for supplying a glass raw material, and a vertical cylindrical glass melting tower 14 for heating a supplied glass raw material 28 in the falling state to obtain molten glass; and to a method for melting glass. The vertical cylindrical glass melting tower 14 is provided with a tubular flame generation device 12 including at least first nozzles 12a, 12c for supplying fuel gas and second nozzles 12b, 12d for supplying oxygen-containing gas with respect to a tangential direction thereof. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
