<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality print output with which no vertical lines are found at joints of LED chips. <P>SOLUTION: A moving-distance calculating unit 301 obtains a distance between the LED chips and positional information of a matrix for which a threshold has not been set, and then calculates a moving distance in a main scanning direction. A starting-position determining unit 302 moves the position of the matrix by a moving distance and then determines the position, which has been changed to the left/right in accordance with a random number generated by a random-number generating unit 303, as a growth starting position of a halftone dot. A plurality of threshold patterns having different growth starting positions are retained in advance in the threshold-pattern storing unit 305. A selecting unit 304 reads a threshold pattern corresponding to an obtained starting position.
