The power unit (1) has electric motors (2, 3) attached to input shafts (5, 6) of a gear box (4). The input shafts comprise teeth (12, 14) for providing respective transmission ratios. A secondary shaft (7) comprises freely rotatable idle gears (16, 17) for engagement with the teeth. Two coupling units (22, 23) rotatably couple the gears with the secondary shaft. The input shafts are coaxial to each other. A third coupling unit (13) comprises a shaft (13a) whose sleeve is arranged on one input shaft to engage with grooves of another shaft (15) that is arranged on another input shaft. An independent claim is also included for a method for managing an operation of an electric power unit.
