ILLUMINATION DEVICE, PROJECTION VIDEO DISPLAY DEVICE, AND LIGHT DEFLECTING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device that illuminates an illumination object area (image forming area) without causing a conspicuous speckle noise, and to provide a projection video display device thereof.

SOLUTION: The illumination device includes a light source 11 for emitting coherent light, and a light deflecting spatial modulation element 15 for deflecting the coherent light emitted by the light source 11. The deflected coherent light emitted by the light deflecting spatial modulation element 15 illuminates the illumination object area by temporally superposing the illumination while temporally changing an incident angle to each point in the illumination object area.
