A substance capable of increasing a cartilage mass and/or capable of normalizing the differentiation into cartilage cells can be screened using salt-inducible kinase 3. A genetically modified cartilage cell in which the expression or function of salt-inducible kinase 3 gene is suppressed or enhanced can be used for ameliorating diseases in which the cartilage mass decreases and/or diseases in which the growth of cartilage is impaired.
