In a chain element (1) for antiskid chains of vehicle tyres, which chain element is provided in order to improve the grip properties, in particular on a smooth underlying surface, with one or more spikes (2) which protrude on one side, each spike (2) has, perpendicularly with respect to its longitudinal extent, a cross section (3) whose outer edge (4) has a shape of successive troughs (6) and peaks (5) which run around in a corrugated fashion.
