摘要 The purpose of the present invention is to provide a transition metal composite hydroxide which is capable of providing a lithium-transition metal composite oxide that has small particle diameters and high particle diameter uniformity when used as a precursor. A method for producing a transition metal composite hydroxide which is represented by general formula (1): MxWsAt(OH)2+a (wherein x + s + t = 1, 0 < s = 0.05, 0 < s + t = 0.15, 0 = a = 0.5, M represents a transition metal including one or more elements selected from among Ni, Co and Mn, and A represents at least one additional element selected from among transition metal elements other than M and W, group 2 elements and group 13 elements) and is coated with a compound that contains the additional element, said transition metal composite hydroxide being capable of serving as a precursor of a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries. The method for producing a transition metal composite hydroxide is characterized by comprising: a complex hydroxide particle production step which includes a nucleation stage for performing nucleation and a particle growth stage for growing the thus-formed nuclei; and a coating step wherein the surface of each complex hydroxide particle obtained in the preceding step is covered with a coating material that contains a metal oxide or a metal hydroxide.
