A digital camera comprises: a horizontal compression-resize unit (301) which compresses a RAW image from a single color image capture element into an image corresponding to a video recording size in an input line direction; a memory unit (303) which stores the horizontally resized image data; a plurality of vertical compression-resize units (304, 306, 308) which carry out vertical compression and resizing from a plurality of instances of compression line data which are read from the memory unit (303) in a vertical direction which is orthogonal to the input line direction; and horizontal compression-resize units (310, 312) which compress the plurality of images which are compressed and resized in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction into images which correspond to display sizes and face detection sizes in a re-input line direction.
