<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner, which can give an image with an appropriate image density and extremely little background contamination even when the toner is repeatedly used for printing a great number of sheets for a long period of time, and which can form a stable image with reproducibility on any transfer medium without image blur, toner scattering or a transfer void. <P>SOLUTION: A toner for dry electrostatic charge image development is provided, the toner including toner particles comprising: toner base particles containing at least a binder resin and a colorant; and an external additive deposited on the toner base particles. The toner base particle has protrusions on the surface thereof, in which the protrusions have an average length of 0.10 μm or more and less than 0.50 μm in a long side and a standard deviation of 0.2 or less of the length of the long side, and a surface coverage of 10% to 90% on the toner base particles.
